Self-love and slow living inspiration for Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is a perfect reminder to take time to consciously reconnect with your loved
ones. And for us, that includes reconnecting with yourself. In this blog, we share some
inspiration to practice self-love this Valentine’s Day (and any other day) in relation to our
slow fashion and slow living philosophy.
Self-love and the art of slow living
As a slow jewellery brand, Julia Otilia forms part of the slow fashion movement and adheres
to a slow living philosophy. For us, self-love and slow living are very much connected, since
slowing things down allows you to be fully present both for yourself and for others. Life can
be incredibly busy, which is why it’s even more important to take some time for yourself
every now and then, and make room to just ‘be’. If you let go from your automated routines
for a day, an afternoon, an hour or even just a few minutes, the space that frees up will allow
you to make different, more conscious choices that truly align with your values and dreams.
As we get swept up in our daily tasks and obligations, our lives may start to feel like they are
not our own – consciously taking time to practice slow living and self-love is a way to reclaim
ownership of your life and enjoy each moment more intentionally. Furthermore, being a
sustainable jewellery brand, taking things slow is our loving act of rebellion against today’s
fast-paced world as well as the fast fashion system.
What does slow living look like?
Slow living has become a popular concept as well as a widely-used term, but what does slow
living look like in practice? Actually, slow living may look different for everyone. It could look
like going on a walk and savouring the stillness of nature, or making time for an activity you
love but never get around to. Or, it could just be as simple as consciously enjoying a hot cup
of coffee or tea. What slow living comes down to, is being mindful of yourself as well as your
surroundings, and fully immersing yourself in the present moment. This, in itself, is an act of
self-love as it helps you connect to yourself on a deeper level, and to actually design your life
in a way that enhances your happiness, and in a way that feels meaningful to you.
Our recommendations for slowing down and practicing self-love
To put both slow living and self-love into practice, we have some recommendations for you.
First of all, to celebrate (self)-love in honor of Valentine’s Day, we currently have a rare offer
for you: using our code SELFLOVE, you can pick out a beautiful present for yourself from our
webshop with 20% off. This code will be valid until midnight of February 14th. As always, we
encourage you to shop mindfully.
In addition to this, our dear friend Emese Deana from Stardust Yoga, who is both a teacher of
restorative yoga and a talented masseuse, is also offering a 20% discount on all of her
services – a perfect opportunity to pamper yourself, if you ask us!
If you are longing for more slow living inspiration, we can recommend the beautiful book
Slow Living by Eva Krebbers. This book includes contributions of many Dutch makers who
share their best slow living tips and activities: from making your own candles to planting a
vegetable garden. We hope it will inspire you!
